Former Fox News co-host Pete Hegseth is now in the fight for his political future, as he has faced a mountain of negative press and allegations after President-elect Donald Trump nominated him to serve as Secretary of Defense.

Hegseth, a former Army National Guard officer, served at Guantánamo Bay and in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is also a graduate of both Princeton and Harvard universities, and has worked at Fox News for the past 10 years.

After Trump nominated Hegseth to serve as Defense Secretary, he has been hit with multiple smears about his past, including allegations about his relationships with women. He is currently married to his third wife, and has 7 children.

NBC News also came out with a hit piece alleging Hegseth came to work at Fox News drunk, which his Fox colleagues have vehemently denied.

Tuesday night, the Wall Street Journal released a report claiming that Trump is now contemplating replacing Hegseth as the nominee with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Meanwhile, Hegseth is busy meeting with senators on Capitol Hill, in preparation for his confirmation hearings.

CBS News reporter Nikole Killion spoke with Hegseth Wednesday morning as he and his wife walked through the Capitol building.

“I spoke to the President-elect this morning. He said ‘keep going, keep fighting. I’m behind you all the way,’” he said.

“So you are in this all the way?” Killion asked, prodding Hegseth on whether he would withdraw.

“Why would I back down? I’ve always been a fighter. I’m here for the war fighters. This is personal & passionate for me,” Hegseth replied.

Hegseth then posted the following statement on X:

“I’m doing this for the warfighters, not the warmongers. The Left is afraid of disrupters and change agents. They are afraid of @realDonaldTrump — and me. So they smear w/ fake, anonymous sources & BS stories. They don’t want truth. Our warriors never back down, & neither will I.”

Conservatives are rooting for Hegseth to be confirmed.
