From Fox News: When President Donald Trump lands in California on Friday to survey the devastating wildfires that have ravaged metropolitan Los Angeles this month, the state’s Democratic governor will be among the officials greeting him.
But Gov. Gavin Newsom is showing up uninvited.
“I look forward to being there on the tarmac to thank the president, welcome him, and we’re making sure that all the resources he needs for a successful briefing are provided to him,” Newsom told reporters on the eve of Trump’s stop in Los Angeles.
Since the fires, which have killed nearly 30 people and forced tens of thousands to flee their homes, broke out earlier this month, Trump has repeatedly criticized Newsom’s handling of the immense crisis. He has accused the governor of mismanaging forestry and water policy, and pointing to intense backlash over a perceived lack of preparation, he has called on Newsom to step down.
When Trump spoke to reporters at the Asheville, North Carolina airport Friday morning, he was asked about conditions he would be requiring to give federal aid to California.
Trump said he has two requirements: He wants California to start requiring Voter ID in elections, and he wants the water allowed to flow into southern California, instead of being pumped out into the ocean.

The President and First Lady exited the plane, and Trump and Newsom had a brief conversation at the base of the steps, before they walked over to speak with reporters.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said he appreciates Newsom coming to meet him at the airport, and the two shared a gracious, cordial exchange in front of the cameras.
“We’re going to need your support, we’re going to need your help,” Newsom told Trump, adding, “You were there for us during Covid, I don’t forget that, and I have all the expectations that we’ll be able to work together.”
Nothing was mentioned in the brief exchange about the conditions Trump has laid out that he wants Newsom to comply with in order to get the federal aid.
Trump and the First Lady then took Marine One for a tour of the areas of Los Angeles left devastated by the recent wildfires.

One of Trump’s greatest criticisms against Newsom has been the issue of water being released into the ocean, instead of allowed to flow down to southern California.
Former West Virginia state Rep. Derrick Evans shared a video and wrote, “Gavin Newsom says there’s not a “spigot” that can be turned on to solve California’s water problems. Here’s a video of 20,000 cubic feet per second of water that is purposely being redirected into the ocean in California:”
