From the Washington Examiner: A sheriff in Florida who released the mug shot and a “perp walk” video earlier this week of an 11-year-old accused of threatening to shoot up a school released two new videos of teenagers he says made similar threats.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood of Volusia County released the two videos Wednesday night, the second in a series of releases to tackle what the sheriff has referred to as a problem that is “disrupting our schools and consuming law enforcement resources.” Chitwood released video and the names of a 16- and 17-year-old accused of threatening schools, according to the Associated Press.

Chitwood said he decided to release the information because he is tired of receiving notifications of school threats on his phone. According to him, Volusia County has received 280 school threats since the school year started weeks ago. In all of last year, the county had 352.

“It just stuck with me because my cellphone was going off, telling me about the other threats. Thinking to myself, how many parents in this country have done just what I just did,” Chitwood said, “and they never, ever, ever get to hold their loved one again.”

“Since parents, you don’t want to raise your kids, I’m going to start raising them,” Chitwood declared in a video on Monday, adding, “Every time we make an arrest, your kid’s photo is going to be put out there. And if I can do it, I’m going to perp walk your kid so that everybody can see what your kid’s up to.”

In a series of social media posts Wednesday evening, Sheriff Chitwood announced:

Again. 2 more @volusiaschools students locked up for a “joke” threat. It’s a felony. This was RIGHT AFTER their school played our message about how serious we take these “jokes.” Just unbelievable.

Here are the 2 latest @VolusiaSchools students who thought a school shooting threat would be funny. Trinity Mack (17) sent photo on Snapchat today that said “Imma shoot up the school” with her school laptop in the background. Brayden Severance (16) replied “Same.”

This was RIGHT AFTER Taylor Middle-High School broadcast a long announcement to the entire student body with our warning that that ALL threats are taken seriously and these “jokes” are not only unacceptable, they can lead to expulsion and arrest.

Again: Parents, I need you to TALK to your kids and help them understand these “jokes” are just about the dumbest way to find yourself locked up with a felony. Kids need to realize that what they post and send on social media is not private. It will get reported to us.

We are wasting time and resources on this BS that disrupts our schools and lives. It’s not fair to the 99% of kids who are doing the right thing.
