Erika Kirk, the widow of the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, spoke at a White House Rose Garden ceremony Tuesday afternoon after President Donald Trump posthumously honored her husband with the Presidential Medal of Freedom award.
The ceremony was held on what would have been Charlie’s 32nd birthday.
In her remarks, Erika said she asked their 3-year-old daughter what she would like to say to her father for his birthday.
“She said, ‘Happy birthday, Daddy,'” Erika recalled through tears. “‘I want to give you a stuffed animal. I want you to eat a cupcake with ice cream, and I want you to go have a birthday surprise. I love you.'”
