From the New York Post: A triumphant Zohran Mamdani took the oath of office to become the Big Apple’s mayor just moments into the New Year — kicking off an uncharted era with a proud socialist at the helm of the nation’s largest city.
The 34-year-old Queens state assemblyman was sworn in as the city’s 112th mayor — and its second-youngest — by state Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday morning below City Hall Park in a grand, abandoned old subway stop.
The majestic location for the ceremony was chosen because it symbolized the legacy of an ambitious New York City, Mamdani said in a nod to his sweeping socialist agenda.
The subway ceremony was a small event with just a few members of the media present, but Mamdani will be sworn in again Thursday afternoon by fellow socialist, Sen. Bernie Sanders, outside the City Hall, where thousands are expected to attend.
Born in Uganda, Mamdani has on been a U.S. citizen since 2018, less than 8 years, and is now the mayor of the largest city in America. He is New York City’s first Muslim and first Socialist mayor.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is happy. Imraan Siddiqi, the executive director of the CAIR branch in Seattle, Washington, shared a video of the swearing-in and wrote, “Alhamdulillah,” which is Arabic for “praise be to God.”

In response to the video, one X user announced, “Literally moving my firm out of midtown next week based on this. 32 less well-paid consultants to raise taxes on. Good luck. 😬.”

In a video posted to social media Wednesday evening, TeamDML founder and podcast host Dennis Michael Lynch shared a dire prediction of what is to come.
“My big fear for 2026 is how Mamdani transforms NYC into an Islamic Mecca. If allowed to run wild, he sets the stage for blue cities to follow. Then states. No longer will states be red or blue, but rather Christian or Islamic. President Trump, please watch this evil man closely,” DML warned.
