From Daily Mail: A CNN panelist burst out laughing off-camera as Donald Trump received the ‘inaugural 2025 FIFA Peace Prize’ in Washington, DC, on Friday – weeks after the president lost out on a chance to receive this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
Network microphones picked up the female-sounding chuckle as ‘Inside Politics’ anchor Dana Bash reacted to the award from FIFA president Gianni Infantino at the Kennedy Center.
Bash spoke slowly, looking visibly confused, as she attempted to explain what happened.
‘Okay, we’re going to continue to monitor this ceremony at the Kennedy Center. And let me just explain what just happened,’ she said of the on-stage exchange, before a mic captured the off-screen smirk with crystal clarity.
“Um… what just happened was that the President of FIFA gave the President of the United States the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize,” Bash said before explaining that the award “was only created a few weeks ago after President Trump didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize.”
She went on to read FIFA’s description of the award.
“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it’s fundamental to recognize the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in the spirit of Peace,” the description read.
A CNN spokesperson responded to questions, confirming that a member of the panel on set had laughed.
