Just two days after President Donald Trump suggested re-opening the notorious and historic prison on Alcatraz Island as a place to send some of the most dangerous criminals, CNN Data Analyst Harry Enten highlighted a recent poll that shows how Americans really feel about Trump’s performance on handling crime.

Citing a recent IPSOS poll, Enten noted that Trump’s net approval rating is +2 points on handling crime…. compared to Joe Biden who was underwater at -26 points in 2024.

“Donald Trump ran in part on law and order. It was one of the reasons that he got elected, and at this particular point, Americans like what they’re hearing from him on the issue of crime,” Enten announced.

Enten also noted that Trump’s net approval rating on handling crime is far better now than how Americans view his second term, which was -13 points. So Trump is up 15 points from his own previous record.

It gets even better. Enten showed that 53% of Americans were concerned about crime in America this time last year. Now, that number has dropped to 47%.

“I know reopening Alcatraz is “late night fodder” for some, but we’re actually now talking about a top issue for Trump: crime. Voters like what Trump’s doing on crime. His net approval is +2 pts. Biden’s was -26 pts! Trump’s own net approval on crime is up 15 pts from 2024!” Enten wrote, sharing a video of his analysis.
