The 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris which aired Monday night has been the focus of news headlines all week, as Harris has been targeted over her comments in the interview, and CBS News has been slammed for strategically editing some of Harris’ answers to make her look better.

However, conservatives have agreed that CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker held Harris’ feet to the fire on a number of issues.

In one part of the interview, Whitaker grilled Harris on whether she was a legitimate candidate, pointing out that she was simply handed the nomination without ever going through the primary election process.

Democrats, including Harris, claim that former President Donald Trump is a “threat to democracy,” and claim they are going to save democracy. But Whitaker argued that Harris was actually going against democracy.

“Was democracy best served by President Biden stepping down and basically handing you a nomination? You didn’t have to go through the primary process. You didn’t have to fight off other contenders. That’s not really the way our system was intended to work,” Whitaker said.

Harris gave a rambling but halting response, as if groping for words.

“President Biden made a decision that I think history is going to show is rare among leaders, which was to put country before self, and I am proud to have earned the support of the vast majority of delegates, and to have been elected the Democratic nominee,” she stammered.

“I am proud to have received the endorsement of leaders around this country from every background and walk of life to fight in this election over the next month for our democracy,” she continued.

Whitaker pushed back, saying, “But I think this truncated process is why people think or say they don’t really know who you are.”

“Look, I’ve been in this race for 70 days,” Harris retorted.

“There is no coming back from this,” predicted podcaster Benny Johnson, sharing the video.

60 Minutes included the same clip in a longer version of the interview posted to social media, and noted that Harris is now making her appeal to voters she “could have met months ago in a more traditional election cycle.”

Whitaker also calls out Harris over the violent rhetoric which has led to two assassination attempts against Trump.

He also asked her which country she considers to be America’s greatest adversary. Harris responds that it is Iran. He asks, “So if you have proof that Iran is building a nuclear weapon, would you take military action”? Harris refuses to answer.

Whitaker asks her about China, and Harris touts China as a major competitor. He asks if China attacks Taiwan, would she take military action against China? Again, she refuses to answer.
