From Breitbart: Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Sunday attacked eight Senate Democrats’ “very, very bad vote” to start reopening the government, saying that the recent elections serve as a mandate for Democrats to stand up to “Trumpism” and the president’s alleged authoritarianism.
Late Sunday night, eight Senate Democrats joined Republicans to advance a continuing resolution (CR), a stop-gap spending bill, to end the weeks-long government shutdown.
The Vermont Democratic socialist called the move a “very, very bad vote” in a post on X.
“Tonight, eight Democrats voted with the Republicans to allow them to go forward on this continuing resolution. And to my mind, this was a very, very bad vote,” Sanders said, as he walked through the halls of Congress.
Sanders claimed this resolution will raise healthcare premiums for over 20 million Americans, saying their premiums will be doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled.
He also claimed the bill “paves the way for 15 million people to be thrown off Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act,” but made no mention of whether they were all qualified for the service, or whether they were all even American citizens.
“All of that was done to give $1 trillion in tax breaks to the 1%,” Sanders wildly claimed.
Still fuming, he raged, “As everybody knows, just on Tuesday, we had an election all over this country. And what the election showed is that the American people wanted us to stand up to Trumpism — to his war against working-class people, to his authoritarianism. That is what the American people wanted. But tonight, that is not what happened.”

X user Lester Dent rebuked Sanders, explaining the situation in plain English:
It doesn’t raise premiums. Just stop. It allows some subsidies THAT DEMOCRATS BUILT INTO THEIR ACA WITH SUNSET DATES to lapse. A trick both sides play – set a sunset date a few years out (“Don’t worry! These expensive subsidies are only for a limited time! This will bring the cost of insurance & healthcare down!”) so the CBO scores the bill coming in cheaper than if the subsidies are permanent.
Refusing to extend something PAST THE SUNSET DATE THE DEMS WROTE INTO THE BILL is not increasing the cost.
If a car costs $15k with a dealer discount of $1k, when that discount goes away the price of the vehicle hasn’t gone up. It’s still the original $15k. You can say the consumer will pay more, but you can’t say the price of the car went up.
But then, Bernie knows this as do all members of Congress. Just half lie about it.

Another reaction:
Please explain how the continuing resolution gave “$1 trillion to the one percent“.
You guys knew that funding for the ACA was running out and did nothing to mitigate it sooner. Why?

Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders is at the TOP OF THE LIST of Democrats who have received massive campaign contributions from Big Pharma companies.
Data shared by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) shows Sanders has raked in a whopping $23 million between 1990 – 2024 from Big Pharma companies.
“Pharma owns congress. The Senate Democrats weren’t fighting for you. They were fighting for their cartel,” Luna wrote.
