From the New York Post: Long-awaited summer vacations and even surgeries were thrown into turmoil Friday after a global tech outage that crippled industries worldwide forced furious Americans to miss flights and camp out overnight in airports.
“This is bulls–t,” Gary Robertson, a frustrated Queens father, raged at JFK Airport early Friday after learning his family’s flight was among the hundreds canceled nationwide due to the unprecedented glitch.
In the Big Apple alone, LaGuardia Airport had axed 85 flights and delayed 185, while JFK travelers on dozens of flights were hit with lengthy delays and 47 canceled flights by the afternoon as the fallout from the global crisis spread.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced on social media Friday afternoon:
If you’re affected by today’s airline tech issues, bookmark http://FlightRights.gov. We created an easy-to-use dashboard in 2022 to show which airlines cover meals and hotels, and provide free rebooking when an airline causes a major delay or cancellation.
If your flight is cancelled, and you choose not to travel, you do not have to accept a travel voucher. You can request a cash refund.

One tearful stranded passenger was seen being hugged by a Delta employee:
This is a first – had my flight (LAX to IND) cancelled because of a computer glitch with Microsoft. Hearing it might even be a cyber attack?
Regardless, I’m fortunate my flight wasn’t critical. I feel for this woman hugging the Delta employee. #LAX #CyberAttack @ABC7 pic.twitter.com/z6s38J0CGw
