President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump traveled to North Carolina Friday morning to the meet with victims and tour the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene last year.

After landing in North Carolina, Trump first spoke to reporters at the airport, and torched both the Biden administration and FEMA for neglecting the people of North Carolina.

“Everybody thought I was going to California, but I said no, I’m stopping in North Carolina first, because they’ve been abused by what’s happened… it’s terrible,” Trump said, vowing he is going to fix it “as fast we can.”

“FEMA has really let us down. Let the country down. I don’t know if that’s Biden’s fault or whose fault it is, but we’re going to take over and we’re going to do a good job,” Trump promised.

“We’re looking at the whole concept of FEMA,” Trump said. He suggested the governors of the states should be allowed to respond to their own disasters, instead of having a group of people come in from an outside area who “don’t even know where they’re going” to solve local issues.

Trump said he will be asking Congress for additional aid for North Carolina, instead of going through FEMA.

Trump met with emergency responders and local officials, along with evangelical leader Franklin Graham.

“I’ll also be signing an Executive Order to begin the process of fundamentally reforming and overhauling FEMA — or maybe getting rid of FEMA. I think, frankly, FEMA is not good,” Trump announced.

“I think when you have a problem like this, I think you want to… use your state to fix it and not waste time,” Trump said.

“Calling FEMA and then FEMA gets here and they don’t know the area… they’ve never been to the area, they want to give you rules that you’ve never heard about, and bring people in that aren’t as good as the people you already have… FEMA has turned out to be a disaster,” he added.

“I think we’re going to recommend that FEMA go away and we pay directly, and pay a percentage to the state,” Trump said.

“We’re going to do a lot for North Carolina. They’ve been very slow. I don’t know why it’s been so bad… I don’t know if that’s for political reasons because they lost the state… but this has been very slow and we’re going to make up for lost time,” Trump promised.

Matt Van Swol of North Carolina posted a video and wrote, “If you’re wondering why everyone in Western North Carolina is freaking out about Trump coming today… It is because MY KIDS SOCCER FIELD still looks like this 119 days after the hurricane. We have been ignored for months, now we are finally getting help. TRUMP EFFECT!!!!!!”
