From Fox News: The family of Texas teen Karmelo Anthony has been at the center of national media in recent weeks after the 17-year-old allegedly stabbed another boy to death at a track meet in Frisco on April 2.

Since the incident, Anthony’s family has raised more than $515,000 on the crowdsourcing platform GiveSendGo. The Karmelo Anthony Help Fund has become one of the most-discussed fundraising campaigns in recent weeks, collecting half a million dollars for a suspect who has reportedly said “I did it” about the stabbing but also claims it was in self-defense.

The campaign has not yet reached its $600,000 goal, which was pushed up on Tuesday from a previous $525,000 goal, so the funds have not been paid out to the family.

GiveSendGo co-founder Jacob Wells told Fox News Digital that his company has a team that is communicating with the Anthony family about how they plan on using the money once received.

Speaking with Fox News, Wells lamented that he has received threats from “people on the right” after he allowed the fundraising account for the accused murderer to remain active, and claimed the Anthony family is getting ten times that many threats.

“They’ve been very clear that the vast bulk of this money is going to be used for Karmelo’s legal defense,” Wells said.

“They’ve indicated that some of it will be used to provide them some security, some much-needed security,” he continued. “And then also, a secure location for them to live… somebody doxxed their information… so that creates a very bad situation for them, so it’s completely understandable for them to go find decent housing. They were renting before, and they’re continuing to rent. So it’s like, okay, $3,000 a month for the next year, year and a half.”

At the track meet on April 2, each participating team had their own tent to sit under, where they were supposed to stay with their own school, and could leave their belongings while they were out on the track.

Anthony had taken a seat in the wrong tent, instead of sitting with his own school mates. When Austin Metcalf asked him to go to his own tent, Anthony reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Metcalf in the heart. Metcalf then died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter.

As of this report, supporters have donated over $516,000 to the GiveSendGo account set up to aid the self-admitted killer. A statement on the GiveSendGo account reads:

This fundraiser has been established to provide comprehensive assistance to the Anthony family as they navigate the many challenges surrounding Karmelo’s case.

While legal defense is a critical part of this journey, we want to make it clear that this fund is not solely dedicated to legal expenses. The funds raised will also support a range of urgent and necessary needs that have emerged as a result of this situation, including — but not limited to — the safe relocation of the Anthony family due to escalating threats to their safety and well-being, as well as basic living costs, transportation, counseling, and other security measures.

We ask for your continued prayers, support, and solidarity. Your contribution not only helps protect and stabilize the family, but also serves as a powerful message of community care and resistance in the face of injustice.

Donors are commenting on the GiveSendGo page, voicing their support for Anthony, and calling the young man he stabbed to death a “bully.”

One donor crudely wrote this week, “Honestly, even if Karmelo stabbed Austin for no reason at all.. I’d still donate and support. Whites have gotten away with killing us for hundreds of years. I could care less about white lives.”
