From Fox News: A North Carolina father called for stricter penalties for criminals during a congressional hearing on Monday, saying that, similar to the case of the Charlotte light rail attack, his daughter was killed at the hands of a repeat offender.

Stephen Federico said his daughter Logan’s alleged murderer had more than two dozen felonies on his record in South Carolina before he broke into a house in Columbia, where the 22-year-old woman was visiting with friends, and robbed her and shot her in the chest.

“I will fight until my last breath for my daughter,” Federico told lawmakers during his opening remarks. “You need to fight for the rest of our children, the rest of the innocents, and stop protecting the people that keep taking them from us, please.”

Federico joined Mia Alderman, whose granddaughter was murdered in 2020, to speak out during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in Charlotte against a judicial system that they say failed their families.

Alexander Dickey, ‘the career criminal’ arrested for murdering 22-year-old Logan Federico on May 3, 2025 in Columbia, South Carolina, already had a total of 39 prior arrests on his record over the past decade, including 29 felonies, but was still free on the streets.

On May 3, Dickey first broke into a home and stole multiple items, including a gun and keys to a car. Then he broke into a second home, which was where Federico was staying. He stole wallets and credit cards, before going into the room Federico was sleeping and shot her in cold blood, killing her.

Dickey then left the scene and continued on his crime spree for days, using the stolen credit cards to make purchases. He was finally caught and arrested after breaking into a home in Gaston and setting it on fire, WBTV.com reported.

Stephen Federico delivered an emotional and gut-wrenching speech during the congressional hearing on Monday, as he blasted the weak judicial policies that had allowed the career criminal to remain free on the streets, which ultimately resulted in murder of his daughter.

Logan loved children, and wanted to be a teacher, her father had stated after her death. She was going to school and supporting herself by working two jobs.

Fighting back tears on Monday, Stephen Federico told lawmakers, “Think about your child coming home from a night out with friends, lying down, going to sleep, feeling somebody come into the room … and wake them. And drag her out of bed. Naked. Forced on her knees. With her hands over her head. Begging for her life. Begging for her hero. Her father. Me. That couldn’t be there.”

“She was 5-foot-3. She weighed 115 pounds … BANG! Dead. Gone. Why? Because Alexander Devonte Dickey — who was arrested 39 Goddamn times, 25 felonies — was on the street!” he raged.

Demanding a change in lax crime laws that allow criminals to avoid prison, Federico vowed, “I will fight until my last breath for my daughter. I’m not going to be quiet until somebody helps. Logan deserves to be heard. Everyone on this panel deserves to be heard. And we will. Trust me!”
