From Fox Business: SpaceX’s Starship exploded Wednesday night during a test at SpaceX’s Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas.

“A safety clear area around the site was maintained throughout the operation and all personnel are safe and accounted for,” the company said. “Our Starbase team is actively working to safe the test site and the immediate surrounding area in conjunction with local officials. There are no hazards to residents in surrounding communities, and we ask that individuals do not attempt to approach the area while safing operations continue.”

The rocket’s explosion was caught on camera by several livestreams of Starbase.

The Cameron County Constable Precinct 1 posted a video on Facebook of the massive explosion.

“BREAKING: SPACEX STARSHIP 36 EXPLOSION: At approximately 11:01:54 PM, during a routine static fire test at Starbase, Texas, SpaceX’s Starship 36 suffered a catastrophic failure and exploded.

“Thankfully, no injuries have been reported at this time. Emergency protocols were quickly enacted, and an investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the incident,” the message reads.

Elon Musk first responded to the huge inferno by jokingly writing, “Just a scratch.”

X user Space Sudoer then mockingly shared his quote along with multiple photos.

Musk replied to that by adding, “Room for improvement.”

More seriously, Musk then added in response to another post about the explosion, “Preliminary data suggests that a nitrogen COPV in the payload bay failed below its proof pressure. If further investigation confirms that this is what happened, it is the first time ever for this design.”
