VIDEO: DNC delegate among those arrested after attack leaves Ferguson cop fighting for his life

From Fox News: Two new graphic videos were released showing the moment a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer was violently knocked over by a suspect during a Michael Brown protest on Friday – an incident that has left the officer in critical condition.

The protest came just 10 days before the start of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and among those arrested Friday was Keith Rose, a St. Louis alternate delegate to the DNC and a member of the City of St. Louis’ Civilian Oversight Board which reviews allegations of police misconduct, Fox 2 reports. Rose has since withdrawn as an alternate DNC delegate.

“Keith Rose has decided to voluntarily withdraw as an uncommitted alternate delegate to the DNC,” the Missouri Democratic Party said in a statement.

The new videos, taken from two different angles, show Ferguson Police Officer Travis Brown apparently being hit by 28-year-old suspect Elijah Gantt on a sidewalk outside a police station after protesters attempted to pull down a perimeter fence. Police say Brown is “fighting for his life” after being critically injured in an assault during protests on the 10th anniversary of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown.

In the newly-released video footage shown during a news conference on Wednesday, the suspect is seen running down the officer and slamming his head onto the pavement.  Other officers then dive onto the suspect (Gantt) and arrest him.

Then the officers realize Brown is still lying on the pavement, critically injured.

Brown reportedly suffered a severe brain injury when his head slammed onto the sidewalk.  He is the father of young twin daughters, and is still fighting for his life in the hospital.

Gantt is currently being held in jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

During the demonstration Friday night, Police Chief Troy Doyle said the protesters were mostly peaceful, and police didn’t even take any action when the mob blocked the streets outside the police station, and then began shaking the fence outside the station.

However, when the protesters actually broke the fence, that’s when Doyle sent officers out to arrest them.  Officer Brown, who is Black, was one of those sent out to apprehend the rioters.

The DNC delegate, Keith Rose, was one of the protesters, and allegedly kicked in part of the metal gate outside the police station.  He has been charged with first-degree property damage, and is currently free on a $500 bond.

Doyle said Brown was part of a wave of Black officers hired into the department since 2014. “He wanted to be part of the change. He wanted to make an impact in our community. He’s the type of officer that we want in our community. And what happens? He gets assaulted. I had to look his mother in the eye and tell her what happened to her son. I’m never going to do that again, I promise you that,” Doyle announced.

Black Lives Matter supporter and anti-police activist Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) issued the following statement after the horrific incident, “My thoughts are with Ferguson Police Officer Travis Brown and his family. I am praying for Officer Brown’s swift and full recovery, and my office is on hand to support the family and our community members during this difficult time.”

The National Police Association fired back, “Those who attacked Officer Travis Brown didn’t read the Obama DOJ report that found Michael Brown tried to disarm the officer and the shooting was self-defense. They have, though, listed to your years of lies (many on your X feed) about Michael Brown’s life being “stolen” by “police violence”. You want to help? Apologize to Officer Travis Brown for all the lies.”
