VIDEO: Democrat Rep admits to prolonging shutdown for ‘leverage’, outrage erupts

From the New York Post: Democrats on Capitol Hill are openly admitting that they plan to drag the government shutdown into next month — possibly breaking the all-time record of 35 days in the process — to try and score political points as Americans begin applying for health insurance coverage.

“Shutdowns are terrible and, of course, there will be families that are going to suffer. We take that responsibility very seriously,” House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) told Fox News senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram in a recent interview.

“But it is one of the few leverage times we have.”

Clark’s admission, which was blasted to millions of Americans by the Trump White House, Republican National Committee, and other GOP-aligned X accounts, came as the government shutdown — the second-longest in US history — entered its fourth week.

Clark is getting lambasted over her admission that Democrats are holding the government hostage and allowing the shutdown to continue, just so they can have “leverage” against Republicans.

“These people are SICK!” declared the White House Rapid Response team.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote, “The Democrats are now admitting that they are intentionally causing American families to “suffer” with their reckless government shutdown. What is wrong with them?”

The backlash continues… below is just a sampling of the outrage being posted on X:

Donald Trump Jr.: “This is fucking demented. Democrats are willing to hurt normal American families just to “resist” Trump.”

Ross Connolly: “INSANE. @WhipKClark thinks it’s perfectly fine for her constituents to suffer so she can use them as political leverage. Abhorrent politics. Call her office NOW and tell her to stop holding the Federal government hostage: (202) 225-2836.”

Rep. Tim Kean (R-NY): “This is completely unacceptable and wrong. Democrats are trying to ‘leverage’ the negative impact of the shutdown on ordinary Americans. Senate Democrats should immediately vote to reopen our government and stop intentionally hurting our country- this has gone beyond far enough.”

White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair: “Democrats describe withholding paychecks, food stamps, and funding to feed women, infants, and children as “leverage”. Very sick people.”

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), “Democrats are admitting that they’re using the American families as leverage. They need to stop playing sick, partisan games with people’s lives and reopen the government.”

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC): “The #2 House Democrat just said the quiet part out loud: they are using the suffering of the American people to amass political power.”

Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.): “Don’t take my word for it, listen to the #2 in charge of the House Dems. They are using the American people hurt by the shutdown as leverage. Gross and absurdly un-American.”

Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-Pa.): “This is Washington Democrats saying the quiet part out loud. They would rather hold the federal government and the American people hostage over their demands than get back to work.”

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.): “This is what Chuck Schumer means when he says, “Every day gets better for us.” It is shameful to use the American people as leverage to push your radical agenda. Millions of Americans are suffering. Democrats don’t care.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson is throwing Clark’s comments back in her face by playing the video on a repeat loop outside his office.
