From Fox News: The top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee was lambasted, almost immediately, for referring to the shooting of two West Virginia National Guardsmen in Washington as an “unfortunate accident” during a hearing Thursday.
On Thanksgiving Eve, WVNG Spc. Sarah Beckstrom of Webster County was killed and Andrew Wolfe of Berkeley County was gravely wounded allegedly by Rahmanullah Lakanwal – an Afghan refugee living in Bellingham, Washington.
During the “Worldwide Threats to the Homeland” hearing, Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi pivoted to Homeland Security Kristi Noem after sparring with FBI Operations Director Michael Glasheen about the whereabouts of Antifa’s headquarters, to ask who approved Lakanwal’s vetting.
“Madam Secretary, you and the gentleman from NCTC (Joe Kent) reference the unfortunate accident that occurred with the National Guardsman being killed,” Thompson told Noem.
Noem was not having it, and fired back at Thompson in disgust.
“You think that was an unfortunate accident!? It was a terrorist attack. He shot our National Guardsmen in the head!”
The Trump Rapid Response team shared a video of the exchange, and called Thompson a “scumbag.”

Social media is exploding in outrage over Thompson’s remark, calling him deranged, disgusting, despicable and deplorable.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves, a Republican, wrote, “Bennie Thompson worked to remove the President’s secret service protection so terrorists like the ones who targeted the National Guardsmen in DC would have easier access to assassinate him. Sadly, this is not a new low—it is more of the same.”

Andrea, a U.S. Air Force mom, wrote, “@BennieGThompson You are a disgusting human being. An unfortunate ACCIDENT??? Are you absolutely shitting me? He traveled across the country and murdered a Nat’l Guardsman. Stop trying to excuse criminals and terrorists. You should step down. IMMEDIATELY. You’re vile.”
“@BennieGThompson should resign just based on this clip alone,” declared Scott Wood.
“Politics aside, shooting someone in the head can never be an accident, let alone an unfortunate accident,” X user Andrew wrote.
“Mississippi deserves better than this guy in Washington,” declared James Pugh.
“Bennie Thompson is a waste of valuable oxygen,” declared Buzz Patterson, a retired Air Force pilot and former carrier of the “nuclear football.”
Rep. Ronn Jackson (R-Tex.) also voiced his outrage, writing, “Bennie Thompson is PATHETIC. Our troops were SHOT IN THE HEAD while serving this country, and this CLOWN wants to spin it away. Absolutely SICK. This was a TERRORIST ATTACK on American heroes!!”
