From Fox News: Mexican drug cartels have seemingly adopted a tactic of placing colored wristbands on migrants as they cross illegally into the United States through Texas, signifying a more coordinated effort to control who comes across the border, authorities said Tuesday.

In the border city of Eagle Pass, Texas, blue wristbands with names were found discarded on the ground amid piles of trash and clothing. The wristbands are similar to bracelets placed on migrants who cross illegally into Texas through the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas, Lt. Chris Olivarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety told Fox News Digital.

“We’ve always seen that in those areas. We’ve never seen that in Eagle Pass,” he said. “That tells us it’s more controlled, more coordinated by the cartels.”

Cartels often use bracelets to signify proof of payment to smugglers, said Olivarez.

“If they have a blue one, they can only cross in this area. If they have a red one, they can only cross in that area,” he said.

News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley also reported on the bracelets during an interview at the border with Olivarez.  Bradley wrote:

NEW: Cartel migrant bracelets have made it to the Del Rio sector— A tactic historically seen in the Rio Grande Valley. Names written in marker on blue, green and yellow bracelets littered along the river banks on private property in Eagle Pass—The latest area to be exploited for illegal crossings.

@TxDPS @LtChrisOlivarez says the bracelets signify a more coordinated effort in the area. The cartels often use these bracelets to separate groups or families and also to show proof of payment—Something important to the cartel right now since moving people and drugs into the country illegally has been a little more of a challenge with the Biden administration’s executive action “threshold.”

Sources say the discovery of the bracelets here is concerning as they believe the organizational tactic is being used because the cartel is preparing for bigger groups. Texas says it is prepared for anything.

Olivarez also told Bradley he was very concerned about the recent increase in “special interest” illegal aliens that are crossing the border, who are from countries known for terrorism.

Bradley wrote:

“They [Border Patrol] don’t have the capability to do proper checks on these individuals because those countries aren’t gonna share information with us…”

@LtChrisOlivarez says it’s concerning that more illegal immigrants from adversarial countries are crossing into the Del Rio Sector. In Arizona, Pakistani nationals, who are considered special interest, were encountered using fraudulent passports from South Africa in an attempt to enter the U.S. easier—According to an internal email obtained via sources. Lt. Olivarez says it’s concerning not knowing who is being released into the country.
