From Breitbart: Self-proclaimed Catholic President Joe Biden honored longtime feminist and pro-abortion activist Eleanor Smeal by awarding her with the Presidential Citizens Medal.
The medal is given to U.S. citizens who “have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens,” according to a White House announcement on January 2. The award comes after Biden — the nation’s second Catholic president — awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to former Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, who reportedly oversaw nearly 4 million abortions while leading the organization for 12 years, between 2006 and 2018.
Smeal is president of the Feminist Majority Foundation and former president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), Catholic News Agency (CNA) reported. She was one of 20 Presidential Citizens Medal recipients on Thursday.
According to the Feminist Majority Foundation, Smeal led the first national abortion rights march in Washington, DC, in 1986, which included more than 100,000 protesters. She has also campaigned for the Equal Rights Amendment and is a critic of laws that protect unborn babies from abortion.
Smeal was among a group of 20 people who received the Presidential Citizens Medal on January 2. Others included former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.) and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.).
In the press release announcing each recipient, the White House wrote of Smeal:
From leading massive protests and galvanizing women’s votes in the 1970s to steering progress for equal pay and helping the Violence Against Women Act become law, Ellie Smeal forced the Nation to not only include women in political discourse but to value them as power brokers and equals. Her strategic vision over more than 40 years embodies the American pursuit to create a fairer, more just world.
In further conflict with Biden’s self-proclaimed Catholic faith, Breitbart notes that Smeal was arrested in 1987 during a protest at the Vatican’s embassy.

On November 20, Biden had announced that he had awarded former Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Biden’s glowing account of Richards reads, “With absolute courage, she fearlessly leads us forward to be the America we say we are – a nation of freedom. Through her work to lift up the dignity of workers, defend and advance women’s reproductive rights and equality, and mobilize Americans to exercise their power to vote, she has carved an inspiring legacy.”
