From Fox Weather: A major multi-vehicle pileup shut down part of Interstate 196 southeast of Grand Rapids, Michigan amid heavy lake-effect snow Monday morning. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office told FOX Weather that minor injuries were reported but no fatalities.
Deputies on scene initially estimated roughly 100 vehicles were involved in the pileup, the Sheriff’s Office said. Drone video of the scene showed at least six tractor-trailers in one section of the crash.
The massive crash happened around 10:20 a.m. Monday, amid blowing snow that had reduced visibility down to just a quarter of a mile.
The drone video shared by Fox Weather shows an endless line of vehicles and semi-trucks piled up on the highway, including some that have skidded off the highway onto the roadside ditches.
Another videos shows one driving filming the aftermath.
Michigan Storm Chasers shared additional footage on Facebook:
School buses were brought in to shuttle people out of the area to a warmer place.
