From the New York Post: An ABC News correspondent is getting panned for his bizarre empathetic and gushing interpretation of the text messages between accused Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson and his transgender partner which were revealed Tuesday.

Reporter Matt Gutman breathlessly reported from the Kirk assassination press conference in Utah Tuesday — presenting the deranged killer’s apparent confessional texts as “intimate,” “fulsome,” and “very touching.”

“But, also, it was very touching in a way that many of us didn’t expect,” Gutman stated without coercion of the texts sent just hours after Kirk was killed on Sept. 10.

“A very intimate portrait into this relationship between the suspect’s roommate and the suspect himself, with him repeatedly calling his roommate, who is transitioning, calling him ‘my love.’ And ‘I want to protect you, my love,” the apparently emotionally moved reporter said.

Gutman acknowledged that Robinson had killed Kirk in front of children, but then brushed is off as “one of the aggravating circumstances of this case.”

He then gushed, “And then, on the other hand, he was, you know, speaking so lovingly about his partner. So a very interesting, riveting press conference.”

Gutman didn’t stop there… moments later he doubled down, again gushing over the man who gunned down Kirk in cold blood:

[O]n the other hand, there is this duality of a very a portrait of a very human person, a very human experience from this entire family…the kid who had got a 34 out of 36 on the ACT, who had a 4.0…I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a press conference in which we’ve read text messages that are A, so fulsome, so robust, so apparently, allegedly self-incriminating and yet, on the other hand, so touching — right — with the suspect reaching out to his roommate, who was allegedly his boyfriend, who we understand, you know, identified as male at birth, now identifies as female. And the terminology he used, he was trying to protect him. He kept calling him ‘my love.’ ‘My reason for doing this is to protect you,’ you know, but also asking him to delete the messages and not speak to law enforcement. So there’s this, this heartbreaking duality that we’re seeing very tragically playing out here.”

Gutman is being lambasted over his shocking comments.

Newsbusters editor Curtis Houck had one word for it: “DISGUSTING.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote, “Legacy media in all its glory…”

X user Kat Mentel responded, “The past few days have opened my eyes. I knew the mainstream media were liars and now they stay silent about cold blooded murder. God help us.”

DeSantis replied, “Media always seems to outdo itself. You’d think they would course correct given the ruined credibility over the years but legacy outlets just keep digging the hole deeper.”

Former nuclear scientist Matt Van Swol wrote, “Honestly, I wake up every single morning wondering if I can hate the media more than I already do… …and every single day, I discover my hatred for the media can actually defy all odds and grow exponentially These people are sick, disgusting, vile creatures.”

“A mostly peaceful assassin,” mocked journalist Julie Kelly.

Steve Gruber wrote, “Matt Gutman of ABC News—seems to think the twisted love story of the assassin is somehow “touching”—are you kidding me???”

Sen. Jim Banks wrote, “Wait, what???”

X user SaveAmerica wrote, “@ABC needs to immediately fire @mattgutmanABC for his disgusting comments. The shooter killed a man in front of his wife and small children and you’re talking about how nice his texts were to his mentally ill boyfriend?!?!”

Katie Pavlich: “My only response to this: many expletives.”

Robbie Starbuck: “The media has moved on to romanticizing a cold blooded killer. We can’t replace the legacy media fast enough. These people are disgusting.”

Alex Bruesewitz: “This is absolutely disgusting. @mattgutmanABC you are a pathetic freak and you should be fired.”

Mike Cernovich: “Demonic.”

Joe Concha: “In a sane world – Matt Gutman would have been fired by now. This is absolutely delusional and nauseating.”

Kyle Becker: “ABC demonizes Charlie, humanizes an accused murderer. Gross.”

David Paulides: “ABC and Matt Gutman have lost their minds. Not sure if this is a murder? Talking so sweetly about the text messages between transgender and straight out assassin, damn, ABC has gone nuts!! I’m speechless!”

Lisa McClain: “There is NOTHING “very touching or riveting” about a cold blooded murderer’s text exchange.”

Dave Rubin: “Oh, so now it’s a love story. 😐😐😐.”
