URGENT ALERT: GOP senator could tank Trump nominee Ed Martin, allowing liberal judge to choose U.S. Attorney for D.C.

From Breitbart: Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) is withholding support for President Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney for D.C., a move that could result in MAGA villain Judge Jeb Boasberg choosing who would fill the role — potentially even former Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Trump, who announced in December 2024 that Ed Martin would serve as Chief of Staff at the Office of Management and Budget, installed Martin as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia on January 20, 2025, later formally nominating him to take over long-term.

But Martin’s interim tag expires May 19, 2025. And due to D.C.’s unusual status within the federal government, the choice of who would fill the position could fall to U.S. District Judge Jeb Boasberg, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Charlie Kirk, and other prominent conservatives supporting Martin’s nomination have warned.

Martin’s defeat would deal a blow to critical components of Trump’s agenda.

The report notes that the clock is ticking on Martin’s interim status, and Sen. Tillis, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has emerged as a roadblock to get Martin’s nomination out of committee. Martin was scheduled to meet with Tillis Monday afternoon.

Some conservatives are sounding the alarm.

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk wrote on Sunday, “If Ed Martin, acting US Attorney of DC is not confirmed by the Senate Republicans before May 20th, radical Judge Boasberg gets to choose his replacement. If the Senate GOP doesn’t confirm Ed in the next two weeks, we will have a Trump hating US Attorney in the nation’s capital. The Senate MUST CONFIRM ED Martin, NOW!”

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) added, “Do you want Judge Boasberg choosing Ed Martin’s replacement? If not, encourage your senators to confirm Ed Martin.”

Judge James Boasberg is the same judge who demanded the Trump administration turn the deportation planes around and bring illegal aliens back to the United States.

President Trump posted the following statement on Truth Social Monday:

Ed Martin is going through the approval process to be U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia. According to many but, in particular, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., his approval is IMPERATIVE in terms of doing all that has to be done to SAVE LIVES and to, MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN. This is a passion for Ed, more so than for almost anyone that I have seen.

One of the reasons that I was so successful in winning the 2024 Presidential Election is my commitment to Health, and helping to Make America Healthy. The Cost of the Chronic Disease Epidemic has gotten out of control over the past four years of the Biden Presidency. We are going to take our Country BACK, and FAST.

Ed Martin will be a big player in doing so and, I hope, that the Republican Senators will make a commitment to his approval, which is now before them. Ed is coming up on the deadline for Voting and, if approved, HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. When some day in the future you look back at your Vote for Ed Martin, you will be very proud of what you have done for America and America’s Health. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Multiple Republican senators are reportedly either hesitating or refusing to support Martin:

  • Thom Tillis – NC (202-224-6342)
  • Susan Collins – Maine (202-224-2523)
  • Bill Cassidy – Louisiana (202-224-5824)
  • Mitch McConnell – Kentucky (202-224-2541)
  • Lisa Murkowski – Alaska (202-224-6665)
  • Roger Wicker – Mississippi (202-224-6253)
  • Lindsey Graham – SC (202-224-5972)

President Trump has reportedly been making phone calls to Republican senators, urging them to support Martin’s nomination.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is also sounding the alarm. He wrote, “John Cornyn is trying to undermine President Trump’s agenda by refusing to say if he supports @USAEdMartin and intentionally stopping his nomination by wasting time we don’t have. President Trump, Ed Martin, and the American people deserve better.”
