Scott Hayes, 47, was charged Thursday after shooting a man wearing a pro-Palestinian pin who tackled him during a protest in Newton, Mass.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan announced the charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and violating a constitutional right causing injury. Hayes is set to be arraigned Friday. A video obtained by The Daily Wire shows the man yelling at a group of protesters, calling them “sick” and accusing them of “supporting genocide” before the altercation.

The man charged across the street and tackled Scott Hayes, who was preparing to leave. While on the ground with the attacker on top of him, Hayes shot the man in the stomach. After the shot, Hayes placed the gun on the pavement and was seen telling bystanders to call 911 while tending to the attacker’s wounds. Hayes had been holding American and Israeli flags during the protest.
