FROM DAILY MAIL: Police have launched an urgent manhunt for the gunman who shot conservative influencer Charlie Kirk at his event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

As chaos took over the scene, an elderly man was seen being hauled away by cops while furious witnesses screamed and hurled abuse at him.

The arrest came at the same time that officials said a suspect had been taken into custody, however university spokeserson Scott Trotter later said that the man in the video was not believed to be the shooter.

UVU officials said the shooter is at large, and that the shot was fired from the top of the Losee Center, about 200 feet away from where Kirk was sitting. (Note that other reports said the shooter was 200 yards away.)

A Utah Valley University (UVU) spokesperson told Fox News the suspect who was initially in custody has been released.

UVU Police, the Orem Police Department, Utah Department of Public Safety, and the FBI, are all investigating, according to the spokesperson.

“It is with the tremendous sadness and shock that Charlie Kirk, who was invited by the student group TPUSA, was shot at about 12:20 when he began speaking at his planned event on the Utah Valley University Orem Campus,” the school wrote in a statement. “We are asking those still on campus to secure in place until police officers can safely escort them off campus.”

The campus has been evacuated and will be closed until further notice. Classes have been cancelled.

In a devastating update on Wednesday, President Donald J. Trump announced that Kirk succumbed to his injuries and died.
