UPDATE: Trump warns of ‘very serious consequences’ if Musk funds Democrats… while Musk softens tone

From NBC News: President Donald Trump on Saturday said there would be “serious consequences” if tech mogul Elon Musk funds Democratic candidates to run against Republicans who vote in favor of the GOP’s sweeping budget bill.

“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump told NBC News in a phone interview, but declined to share what those consequences would be.

“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” he added.

The president also said he has no desire to repair his relationship with Musk after a feud between the two men erupted into public view earlier this week.

“No,” Trump said when asked if he had any wish to do so.

NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Trump during the phone interview if he thought his relationship with Musk was over.

Trump replied, “I would assume so, yeah.”

Musk has taken a softer approach toward Trump since Thursday’s bitter fight.

While speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One Friday evening, Trump was asked about his view on Elon Musk, and if he had heard from him.

“I’ve been so busy… I’m not thinking about Elon Musk. I just wish him well,” Trump said.

“Likewise,” Musk wrote in response.

Trump was also asked about his threat to cancel government contracts with Musk, who is currently ranked the wealthiest person in the world.

“We’ll take a look at everything. He’s got a lot of money. He gets a lot of subsidy, so we’ll take a look at that only if it’s fair for him and for the country. I would certainly think about it yeah but it has to be fair,” Trump said.

“Fair enough,” Musk wrote in response to the video of Trump’s remarks.

Musk also responded to a video of comments by Vice President JD Vance, who said, “Hopefully Elon figures it out and comes back into the fold. I know the President… for a couple days… was getting a little frustrated, feeling like some of the criticisms were unfair coming from Elon, but I think he’s been restrained because the president doesn’t think he needs to be in a blood feud with Elon Musk. I actually think if Elon chills out a little bit everything will be fine.”

“Cool,” Musk responded.

Despite Trump’s warning, it doesn’t appear Musk is anywhere close to start supporting Democrats. At least, certainly not Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

Schiff posted a video making a series of wild allegations about the ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ and claimed, “I can’t believe I’m saying this – but @elonmusk is right. The “Big Beautiful Bill” is filled with all sorts of hidden and dangerous far-right pork. Today, I want to talk about just some of it.”

Responding to the video, Musk wrote, “Hmm, few things could convince me to reconsider my position more than Adam Schiff agreeing with me!”

However, Musk did appear to agree with a suggestion to support moderate Republicans – which seems bizarre since he has complained that the Republican bill isn’t cutting enough pork.
