From the New York Post: A judge ordered Timothy Busfield to be released from jail Tuesday as his sobbing wife, Melissa Gilbert, mouthed “thank you, God” during a detention hearing after the actor and director was charged with child sex abuse.
Judge David Murphy ordered that Busfield, 68, be released on his own recognizance until the trial.
He can leave the state to live at home, per the judge’s orders. Busfield will also be supervised upon release by a pretrial service in Albuquerque.
The “Field of Dreams” actor is accused of inappropriately touching two minors while working as a director on the set of the series “The Cleaning Lady.”
He was also accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl “several years ago” in Sacramento, California, by prosecutors in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, in a motion filed on Jan. 14.
The report notes that Busfield has denied all the allegations, and many of his former co-stars have sent letters vouching for his character, saying they know he would never hurt anyone, much less a child.

Below is the moment the judge agreed to release Busfield and allow him to live at home ahead of the trial. His wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, was seen silently weeping and gesturing in prayer, “Thank you, God.”
Below is commentary from TMZ, explaining how the case against Busfield appears to be falling apart. His defense attorneys are arguing that the parents of the child made the allegations as an act of revenge after their children were let go from the movie. Busfield has already emphatically stated that he was never alone with the children at any time.
