House Republicans have elected Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., as their new GOP Conference Chair, replacing Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y.

In an internal vote on Wednesday evening, McClain won the No. 4 leadership position over Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla. McClain, previously the House GOP conference secretary, won the conference chair position with support from the Freedom Caucus to national security-focused Republicans. Cammack’s campaign was bolstered by endorsements from Rep. Byron Donalds, the Log Cabin Republicans, and the national Young Republicans.

Stefanik had initially planned to run but accepted President-elect Trump’s nomination as U.N. ambassador instead. The conference chair’s role involves managing the House GOP’s messaging strategy.

According to sources, the House GOP unanimously re-elected Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., along with Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., and Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., to their positions.
