Police Chief Tony Crisp of Maryville, Tennessee, shared an update on Monday regarding Officer Justin Brown, who was critically injured last month in a crash while escorting Vice President JD Vance in a security motorcade.

Brown was critically injured on Nov. 14 when his police motorcycle collided with a state trooper’s vehicle near Merrit Road on East Lamar Alexander Parkway as Vice President Vance arrived for a fundraiser at Blackberry Farm, Crisp said. He added that Brown is making steady progress and was released from the hospital Saturday before being moved to a Knoxville rehabilitation center for several weeks of treatment.

“Justin and his family are grateful for the support from our community,” Crisp said. “Please continue to keep Justin and his family in your prayers as he continues his road to recovery.”

Following the crash, the Maryville Police Department authorized a fundraiser for Brown through Blue Line Tennessee, which has raised nearly $19,000 as of Monday. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
