It has now been confirmed that the photo taken of the congressional delegation in front of a marble staircase in Luxembourg last Friday was taken AFTER former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi fell down those same stairs.
The photo shows Pelosi, wearing high heels, standing in front, and gripping the hand of Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Tex.), while her left hand appears to be holding her injured left leg.
It was reported that Pelosi, 84, tripped going down the marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace and took a hard fall, fracturing her hip.
Pelosi was taken to the hospital, and then transported to the U.S. military’s Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany where she underwent successful hip replacement surgery.
McCaul has now explained how Pelosi fell.
“She’s doing well. She had a hip replacement. I was right next to her, she likes to wear high heels, very high,” McCaul said in a statement. “She was on one of her last steps on this marble staircase that didn’t have a railing and she lost her footing and fell to the ground. I immediately helped pick her up and we took a picture after that, you can see me holding her up by her hand, and very soon thereafter a vehicle picked her up and she was taken to the hospital. I wish her a speedy recovery.”
“She’s 84. But when I talk to her on the phone, she had a lot of energy. Very spunky. She wants to get out of there and wants to be able to fly back home to the United States,” he added.
