In a stunning onset of activity Friday night (before midnight local time), it was announced that police had detained at least three people who were being questioned in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, but police have not named any suspects.
Initial reports said police were questioning people they had arrested at a house located very close to Guthrie’s home, from which she disappeared.
From CNN:
Law enforcement vehicles seen: More than a dozen law enforcement vehicles, including those from SWAT and forensics, descended on a residence two miles from Guthrie’s home. Multiple roads were closed and reopened about four hours later, according to CNN teams on the ground.
In addition, a man was detained during a traffic stop at a Culver’s near Guthrie’s Tucson Foothills home. He was also questioned in connection with the investigation into her disappearance.
Police have not confirmed whether he was one of the three people detained or if he is the fourth person detained. The New York Post, citing a Fox News source, reported that law enforcement was seen taking three people into custody as they were executing a search warrant at the home. The are reported to be two men and one of their mothers. The detention of the man at Culver’s was a separate and related incident.
From the Post:
Acting on a tip, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a home about 2 miles from the missing grandma’s house and took two men — along with one of their mothers — into custody, a local police source told Fox News Digital.
From Fox News, regarding the Culver’s activity:
A local law enforcement source tells Fox News Digital that the man is being questioned in connection with the warrant that was served nearby.
In a separate report, Fox News reported that the man’s Range Rover was towed away from the Culver’s parking lot after the traffic stop, and that police were very interested in the contents of the vehicle.
From Fox News:
Law enforcement investigated the Range Rover, which appeared to be silver or gray, for a couple of hours before having it loaded up onto a tow truck and taken away from the scene. During the investigation, authorities covered the vehicle’s license plate and removed items from the vehicle to photograph, even holding up a sheet at one point to block the view of police activity in the trunk.
The driver of the vehicle was detained by law enforcement for questioning and was taken away from the scene. It’s unclear if the person remains in custody.
At this time, it is unknown whether any of the people detained are suspects, where Guthrie is, or what her condition is.
The activity occurred after investigators found DNA evidence that did not come from anyone known to be in contact with the missing mother.
This is a developing story.
