America watched in horror as gunshots rang out at a Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Former President Donald Trump was hit in the ear by gunfire, and was quickly rushed away by Secret Service.

Officials have now confirmed that the shooter is dead, although the person has not yet been identified.

According to Fox News, two rally attendees were also struck by the gunfire.  It was first reported two other people were killed, then Fox changed their report to say they were injured and were taken to the hospital.

Washington Post writer Meryl Kornfield announced in a social media post, “Butler county district attorney Richard Goldinger tells me Trump was grazed by gunfire but is safe. An audience member was killed and the shooter is dead. Another person is in serious condition, the prosecutor said.”

MSNBC’s Symone Sanders Townsend wrote, “Absolutely terrifying and horrific. Grateful for Secret Service’s swift action. Now is not the time for hot-takes. One person in addition to the shooter is dead and another in critical condition. Praying for their families.”

Video footage is circulating on social media showing law enforcement carrying away a body from the stands behind the podium. It is assumed this may be a rally attendee.

Another rally attendee, an emergency room doctor, said he tried to help one man in the stands who was shot.  He said the man was shot in the head.

Witness says he saw man with a rifle on a roof

From BBC News: One witness, Greg, told the BBC he was outside the rally and could only hear the former president talking, when he noticed a man on top of a roof.

“We noticed the guy crawling up the roof of the building beside us, 50 feet away from us,” Greg said. “He had a rifle, we could clearly see him with a rifle.”

Greg said they pointed the man out to police.

“Next thing you know, I’m thinking to myself why is Trump still speaking? Why have they not pulled him off the stage?” he said. “I’m standing there pointing at him… the next thing you know, five shots ring out.” Bear in mind the situation is still fluid and the BBC cannot fully verify these early witness reports.

A video circulating on social media shows a body lying on a rooftop, which is speculated to be the shooter.

The Secret Service has released the following statement: “An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available.”

A sickening video has been shared, showing blood on the bleachers.

There is also an interview from BBC where an attendee explains how he tried to warn Secret Service agents about the location of the shooter:

President Biden held a quick press conference to deliver his remarks on the assassination attempt, mainly by stating he would not yet call it an “assassination attempt” until there was more information.
