New details have been revealed about former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s condition, after it was reported earlier on Friday that she was injured while in Europe.
“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” a press release by her office announced, without revealing the extent of the injury.
According to a New York Times report, Pelosi, 84, tripped going down marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace and took a hard fall, fracturing her hip.
The Times cited people closed to Pelosi who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Pelosi reportedly needs surgery to repair the damage, but the sources said it was not yet clear where the surgery would be done.
CBS News then announced: A defense official confirmed to CBS News Friday night that the Defense Department was providing medevac support to transport her from Luxembourg to the U.S. military’s Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, but it was unclear when that transport would take place.
The U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg had posted a photo on X of the congressional delegation gathered to attend the event earlier Friday morning. The group is seen standing in front of a staircase, although it is unknown whether this is the staircase she fell from.
Pelosi is seen wearing black stiletto heels in the photo. She is seen gripping the hand of another congressman, with her left hand positioned on her left leg. Reportedly, it was her left leg that was injured.
