From the Washington Examiner: President Joe Biden is bleeding support from Tinseltown as a growing number of Hollywood celebrities are asking him to step aside from the 2024 race.

The calls for Biden to leave office have grown exponentially since his performance at the first presidential debate, which many considered to be a weak showing from the president. As such, many are suggesting Biden be swapped out with a different candidate, with some polling data indicating Vice President Kamala Harris could beat former President Donald Trump in a possible matchup.

Actor George Clooney published an op-ed in the New York Times Wednesday morning, calling for Biden to drop out of the race and allow Democrats to choose a new nominee, saying Biden is no longer “the Joe Biden of 2020.” Clooney had just hosted a $28 million fundraiser for Biden three weeks ago.

In reaction to Clooney’s op-ed, actor Rob Reiner spoke out as well.

“My friend George Clooney has clearly expressed what many of us have been saying. We love and respect Joe Biden. We acknowledge all he has done for our country. But Democracy is facing an existential threat. We need someone younger to fight back. Joe Biden must step aside,” Reiner wrote.

Actor Michael Douglas said in an interview on The View that Clooney made a valid point in asking Biden to step aside.

Former Obama aide Jon Favreau, who is now the co-host of the Pod Save America, also agreed with Clooney, and said he was at Clooney’s fundraiser and saw for himself how Biden is not the same.

Actor John Cusack has also posted multiple statements Wednesday, suggesting Biden should step aside.

“The dems are capable of a historic reset- we are coming to finish what FDR started – the old generation passes the torch – it’s the only way to win – identity politics gets us obliterated – talk about class – yes , talk to white working class who will have a huge part of deciding the election. If Harris can deliver the message of finishing build back better – maybe we got a shot – if she can’t newsome or many other could,” Cusack wrote in one post on X.

Actress Mia Farrow said it’s “time to pass the torch.”

“I’ll vote for Joe if he declines to step down. Of course. But he is losing. We cannot EVER give our country to Trump. Clooney describes Biden as not being the person he once knew, but as he was during the debate. They were together 3 weeks ago. So it wasn’t just that one night. I care deeply about our democracy I hope he names another talented Democrat who will carry forward Joe Biden’s great accomplishments – and win,” she wrote in a social media post on Wednesday.

Liberal comedian Rosie O’Donnell posted a link to an ABC News report about Clooney’s op-ed calling for Biden to step down.
