Ginger Gaetz, the wife of former Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, has responded in multiple social media posts after her husband stunned conservatives on Thursday by withdrawing his name from being consider for the next U.S. Attorney General.

Just after noon, Matt Gaetz released the following statement:

I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.

I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America.

His wife replied, “Nobody loves America more than you ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ.”

In another post, Ginger Gaetz posted a photo of the couple walking hand in hand up the steps of the U.S. Capitol and wrote, “The end of an era.”

But the future still appears to be wide open.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) wrote, “Something tells me we havenโ€™t heard the last of @mattgaetz . I look forward to seeing what is next for both @GingerLGaetz and Matt. Thank you for your service to our country.”

Ginger Gaetz replied, “The BEST is yet to come ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ.”

President-elect Donald Trump released a statement in response to Gaetz’s withdrawal.

โ€œI greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gaetz in seeking approval to be Attorney General. He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect. Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do!โ€ Trump wrote.

“Thank you President Trump! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ,” Gaetz replied.
