From Fox NewsRob Reiner and wife Michele were found dead in the primary bedroom of their Brentwood, Calif. home, according to the LAPD Assistant Police Chief Dominic Choi.

Choi confirmed the details during a report to the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Both Rob and Michele died due to multiple sharp force injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiners office.

The Reiners’ son and suspected killer, Nick Reiner, appeared in court for the first time Wednesday after being charged with double homicide against his parents. The 32-year-old arrived in the courtroom wearing a blue suicide prevention vest. When a judge asked if Reiner waived his rights, Nick said, “Yes, your honor.” His arraignment is set for Jan. 7.

The day before the murders, the Reiners enjoyed a festive party at Conan O’Brien’s house. But people witnessed an argument between Nick and his parents after Nick was seen behaving strangely, according to the LA Times.

After the Reiners’ bodies were discovered, police tracked Nick down at a hotel where they found blood in multiple places.

Nick was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with the special circumstance of multiple murders, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced on Tuesday.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, according to Hochman.

“Their loss is beyond tragic, and we will commit ourselves to bringing their murderer to justice,” Hochman said.
