From The Hill: Brown University placed its campus police chief on administrative leave Monday as it undergoes a comprehensive review of its security protocols and response to the Dec. 13 shooting that left two students dead and nine injured.
The school’s president, Christina Paxton, announced several actions in an email to the Brown University community Monday night, including an “After-Action Review” of the shooting, which will entail “a complete assessment and evaluation of campus safety in the period leading up to the tragedy, the preparedness and response on the date of the shooting, and the emergency management response in the aftermath.”
Paxton said former Providence Police Chief Hugh Clements will serve as interim vice president for public safety and chief of police, assuming day-to-day leadership of the department, as the review takes place. He will also oversee the After-Action Review and will report directly to Paxton.
“Vice President for Public Safety and Emergency Management Rodney Chatman will be on administrative leave, effective immediately,” the school said in a news release.
“This underscores our commitment to clear accountability, leadership continuity and a sustained focus on campus safety at a time when safety is a critical part of healing and recovery for our community,” Paxton explained.
