On Wednesday’s “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg expressed frustration with the Democratic Party for pushing President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race.
During an interview with the current president, she criticized Democrats for publicly questioning his ability to continue, arguing they should have kept their opinions private. In response, Biden gave multiple reasons for his departure, stating he always saw his presidency as “transitional” and later admitting he had only recently come to realize his age fully.
“It’s hard to think of — it’s hard for me to even say how old I am. No, I’m serious … It’s like, holy God, that can’t be right,” commented Biden.
Goldberg remained upset and used part of her time with Biden to express her frustrations about how his exit had been handled, claiming:
“I didn’t like the way they did it. I’m going to just say it out loud because nobody says it out loud. I didn’t like the way it was done publicly. I thought they could have done this in a different way because we didn’t need to hear all the inner fighting. I didn’t like it, I’m saying it to you, you were my ride or die. I was going where — wherever you were going, that was where I was going.”
Goldberg said she expected Biden to hand the presidency to Harris after one term but believed Trump’s 2024 run changed things, as she saw Biden as the best candidate to beat him. Biden maintained he wouldn’t have lost to Trump if he stayed in the race.
