From Breitbart: Kamala Harris and her VP pick Tim Walz pushed the false framing of Republican Sen. JD Vance’s statement on shootings despite the Associated Press (AP) engendering backlash earlier.

The Associated Press ignited massive backlash on Thursday when it blatantly misquoted Republican vice presidential pick JD Vance on school shootings. Speaking at a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, Vance said he does not like that school shootings have become a “fact of life” while calling for better security.

“If these psychos are going to go after our kids, we’ve got to be prepared for it,” Vance said. “We don’t have to like the reality that we live in, but it is the reality we live in. We’ve got to deal with it.”

“I don’t like that this is a fact of life,” Vance said. “But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools. We’ve got to bolster security so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children they’re not able.”

The Associated Press then posted a headline on social media that deceptively claimed, “JD Vance says school shootings are a ‘fact of life,’ calls for better security.”

Journalist George Behizy shared a screenshot of the now-deleted post, and wrote, “The AP, which stands for Associated Propaganda, just deleted the ‘fact of life’ HOAX they deliberately created from JD Vance’s speech.

“Their deletion of the post does not exonerate them from the fact that they committed illegal election interference. The damage is still being done because millions of liberals still believe it. They need to create a post apologizing to Vance and promising to never do it again.”

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk also blasted the Associated Press:

The AP just deleted this tweet to avoid getting slammed by community notes, but let’s be clear about what just happened here…

JD Vance told reporters that he doesn’t like that there are psychotic maniacs who shoot up schools, and that we should respond by improving security to make schools less vulnerable targets.

What did the AP do with that? They twisted and cherry-picked his comments to make him seem cold and indifferent to victims.

The AP is a collection of liars and propagandists dressed up as a wire service. They’re a dumping ground for bitter people too stupid to make it at a real publication. What trash.

The Associated Press deleted their first headline and issued another, still emphasizing the “fact of life” phrase.

“JD Vance says he laments that school shootings are a “fact of life” and says the U.S. needs to harden security to prevent more carnage like the shooting this week that left four dead in Georgia,” the AP wrote in their second headline.

The Kamala Harris campaign promoted the twisted version of Vance’s statement, sharing an edited video, and writing, “JD Vance responds to the deadly shooting in Georgia by saying school shootings are just “a fact of life” and attacking common sense gun safety reform.”

Kamala Harris then personally pushed it out, claiming, “School shootings are not just a fact of life. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can take action to protect our children—and we will.”

Harris’ running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, also pushed the twisted version of Vance’s statement, and wrote, “This is pathetic. We can’t quit on our kids — they deserve better.”

Vance fired back at Harris, writing, “Kamala wants to take security out of our schools instead of protecting our children. Instead of addressing her own failures, she lies about what I said. More desperation from the biggest fraud in American politics.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom also pushed the hoax.

Other media are also pushing the hoax:

The Washington Post: “JD Vance calls reality of school shootings a bleak ‘fact of life’.”

The New York Times: “Vance Calls School Shootings a Grim ‘Fact of Life’ as He Backs Increased Security.”

The Guardian: “Backlash for JD Vance after calling school shooting a ‘fact of life’”

The San Diego Union-Tribune:

Trump national press secretary Karoline Leavitt posted the following statement:

This is why no one trusts the media. Another misleading headline from the @AP.

Here’s the full quote: “I don’t like that this is a fact of life,” Vance said. “But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools. We’ve got to bolster security so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children they’re not able.”
