Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), once celebrated by progressives for his resilience following a 2022 stroke, now faces criticism from former supporters due to his staunch pro-Israel stance and concerns about his health.

A recent New York Magazine article titled “All By Himself” details accounts from current and former staffers who describe Fetterman as increasingly unpredictable and challenging to work with. These revelations have led to a reevaluation of Fetterman’s position within the Democratic Party. Prominent liberals who previously defended Fetterman are now expressing concern. Tech journalist Kara Swisher, who had dismissed earlier reports questioning Fetterman’s cognitive abilities, acknowledged the seriousness of the new findings, emphasizing the importance of medication and self-care in recovery. Similarly, journalist Rebecca Traister, once a vocal supporter, highlighted troubling aspects of the report, including personal tensions between Fetterman and his wife, Gisele.

Fetterman’s unwavering support for Israel, particularly during the Israel-Gaza conflict, has further alienated some of his progressive base. His firm stance has led to staff resignations and public protests outside his offices. Despite internal disagreements, Fetterman remains resolute in his position, asserting that his support for Israel is a matter of principle.

The senator’s health issues have also raised alarms. Reports detail incidents such as Fetterman being found unresponsive and exhibiting signs of severe dehydration, leading to a hospitalization in early 2023. While he has since returned to his Senate duties, concerns about his mental and physical well-being persist among colleagues and staff.

As Fetterman continues his tenure, the combination of health concerns and political positions has created a growing rift within his support base.
