X and Tesla founder Elon Musk shared a post from Tara Buck, a social media influencer and self-professed “Truth Slayer,” who was defending Charlie Kirk after his assassination.
Buck said she had seen a lot of information about comments Kirk made, but she refuses to listen to rumors, so she insists on doing her own research. She says everyone should do their own research so they don’t look stupid in the comments.
“People want to rage-bait you. Stop getting pulled into it like an idiot!” she said. “If you read the headliner and immediately get rage-baited, you’re a sheep.”
She said people need to scroll down and read the whole story before forming an opinion.
She gave one example of a quote that made her question whether Kirk actually said it. A headline said Kirk called the loss of children to gun violence the cost of our Second Amendment right.
Buck explained that she looked up the video to get the full context of the quote, and Kirk had a lot more to say on the subject. To summarize, Kirk said we have accepted the risk associated with other activities, such as driving, and that our right to protect ourselves under the 2A is as important as preserving the convenience of jetting off in our cars. He also said that we should prioritize protecting our kids, and that we have already found a very effective deterrent to mass shootings in the form of security guards. He pointed to the relative safety of other mass-attendance venues, such as sporting events and airports. Kirk said if we can protect people at these events, we should also be protecting our children when they are at school.
Buck ended the video by saying she is always open to discussing viewpoints, but she won’t argue with emotion or with people who can’t be bothered to do their own research.
