President-elect Donald Trump announced in a Truth Social post Monday evening that he will be traveling to France on Saturday.

“It is an honor to announce that I will be traveling to Paris, France, on Saturday to attend the re-opening of the Magnificent and Historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been fully restored after a devastating fire five years ago. President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so. It will be a very special day for all!” Trump wrote.

The historic cathedral was severely damaged when a fire broke out on April 15, 2019. The wooden spire, alone with most of the wooden roof, was destroyed, but a vaulted stone ceiling protected much of the interior. Investigators later said they believed the fire was “started by either a cigarette or a short circuit in the electrical system.”

The cathedral is scheduled to reopen to the public on Saturday, December 7, the day Trump will be in attendance.

Trump had commented about the fire on the day it was occurring.

Video footage has now been released of the newly-restored cathedral.
