This is getting serious, FAST.
The big split between former DOGE leader Elon Musk and President Donald Trump came to a head Thursday morning, when Trump was asked by reporters in the Oval Office about whether Musk’s opposition to the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ is going to hurt its chances of passing in the Senate.
Trump spoke for several minutes about his disappointment over Musk going rogue and said, “I’ve always liked Elon, and I was very surprised. He hasn’t said anything about me that’s bad. I’d rather have him criticize me than the bill because the bill is incredible.”
“I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill. He never had a problem until right after he left,” Trump continued.
While Trump was bashing Elon in the Oval Office, Musk was responding in real time with multiple posts on X, and said it was not true that he had been allowed to review the bill in advance.
Later Thursday afternoon, Musk posted a poll on X, suggesting a new political party should be created.
“Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?” Musk asked in the poll, posted at 1:57 pm ET. The poll will stay up for a full 24 hours.
In less than one hour, the poll already has 3.1 million views and over 400,000 votes. The results so far:
83.5% – Yes
16.6% – No

Meanwhile, Trump lashed out at Musk on Truth Social: “Elon was “wearing thin,” I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!”

Trump also threatened: “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
Eric Berger, Senior Space Editor at Ars Technica, noted, “This would both end the International Space Station and simultaneously provide no way to safely deorbit it.”
Musk replied, “This just gets better and better 🤣🤣 Go ahead, make my day …”

And now, Musk just REALLY opened up the can of worms, with a post that will likely end his friendship with Trump forever.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” he wrote.
