In a post on Truth Social Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump confirmed that a new ballroom will be built at the White House, and says he will be paying for it out of his own pocket.
Trump wrote:
Just inspected the site of the new Ballroom that will be built, compliments of a man known as Donald J. Trump, at the White House.
For 150 years, Presidents, and many others, have wanted a beautiful Ballroom, but it never got built because nobody previously had any knowledge or experience in doing such things — But I do, like maybe nobody else, and it will go up quickly, and be a wonderful addition, very much in keeping with the magnificent White House itself.
These are the “fun” projects I do while thinking about the World Economy, the United States, China, Russia, and lots of other Countries, places, and events. It will all be good, maybe even GREAT, depending on who is the President of the U.S.A.!
The president first revealed his plans to build the new ballroom during an interview with NBC News host Kristen Welker at his Mar-a-Lago estate in early May.
Welker asked Trump about potential changes at the White House. He explained they would be replacing the grassy center of the Rose Garden with a beautiful stone surface to make it easier to hold events. Then he added:
But the other thing, and the big thing, is going to be for 50 years they’ve wanted to build a ballroom at the White House. And they’ve tried, but the presidents were not real estate people. They had no clue. All you have to do is look at President Obama and look at his museum or library, whatever they call it, in Chicago. It’s a catastrophe. It’s way over-budget. Maybe it comes to an end. I don’t know what’s going on. But it’s a disaster because — and it’s not his fault. He’s not a real estate person. He doesn’t know how to build. I do really well. And what we’re going to do, you’re going to see the most beautiful ballroom in the world right now when you take a look.
But we are going to make and build a ballroom, which they’ve wanted for probably a hundred years at the White House. And it’ll be a world-class, beautiful ballroom, and they’ll use the meeting rooms already existing. And we’re going to get that started over the next few months, and it’s going to be beautiful. And it’ll be done properly, and I will fund it.
