Authorities have not yet released an official list of victims from the deadly Islamic terror attack in New Orleans on New Year’s morning, but family members and friends have begun posting tributes to some of the victims on social media.
At least 14 people were killed and another 35 were injured when an admitted ISIS-inspired terrorist, Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Houston, Texas, mowed down a crowd of people on Bourbon Street around 3:15 a.m. with a speeding pickup truck. Jabbar was then shot and killed by police.
Below are tributes to nine of the known victims so far. (This report will be updated when the identities of the other five victims are released.)
Karim Bilal Badawi, 18. (He just graduated from high school in May 2024 and was attending the University of Alabama.)
Badawi’s father shared the following message on Facebook:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(And give good tidings to those who are patient who, when affliction befalls them, say, “We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return.” Prayers from their Lord, and mercy, and your relatives are guided.) Allah, the Most High, the Great, has spoken the truth.
It is with great sadness and grief, and with hearts satisfied with Allah’s decision and destiny, I announce the death of my son, Karim Bilal Badawi, who died early today in the morning as a result of a tragic accident in New Orleans. We ask Allah Almighty to shower his mercy on him, and give us patience and strength to overcome this noble patient. May Allah not see you as evil. In Aziz.

Tiger Bech should be alive today.
He was 27. He had a life of possibility in front of him.
A terrorist took that away on a New Orleans street.
His family and families of all those murdered deserves our promise: terrorism won’t succeed.
Because I’m not terrified: I’m enraged. https://t.co/9EDsDFw24a
