TRIBUTE TO CHARLIE KIRK: Trump lowers flags, Kirk’s final X post, and conservatives flooding social media

Reactions are pouring in from conservatives after Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, a beloved patriot, activist and Trump supporter, was assassinated while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah Wednesday afternoon.

Kirk, 31, was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the neck at 12:20 pm local time.

President Donald Trump first announced that Kirk had not survived the shooting. In a follow-up post, Trump wrote, “In honor of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 P.M.”

Kirk’s final social media post was made about an hour before he was killed. He was voicing his outrage on the brutal murder of a young Ukrainian woman stabbed to death on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“If we want things to change, it’s 100% necessary to politicize the senseless murder of Iryna Zarutska because it was politics that allowed a savage monster with 14 priors to be free on the streets to kill her,” he wrote.

Minutes after he was shot, Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, posted on X, “Psalm 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded, released the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Charles James Kirk has been murdered by a gunshot that took place during Turning Point USA’s “The American Comeback Tour” campus event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.

“May he be received into the merciful arms of our loving Savior, who suffered and died for Charlie. We ask that everyone keep his familiy and loved ones in your prayers. We ask that you please respect their privacy and dignity at this time.”

Conservatives are flooding social media, sharing their grief, and condolences for Kirk’s wife and young children.

President Donald Trump wrote: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

Donald Trump Jr.: “I love you brother. You gave so many people the courage to speak up and we will not ever be silenced.”

Eric Trump: “Charlie Kirk was an incredible patriot — brave, tough as hell, and a dear friend to our entire family. In his honor, all @Trump properties will fly their flags at half-staff. We will always celebrate his life, strive to make him proud, and pray that God watches over Erika and their precious kids.”

My friend Charlie Kirk has died. Taken from us because in this broken culture free speech has been twisted, and labeled as hate. Make no mistake, Charlie’s voice was never hate. His voice was conviction. His voice was courage. His voice was a call for truth when so many chose silence.

Charlie knew Jesus Christ. That is the anchor in this storm. He knew the hope of eternal life, and he lived with a boldness that came from that confidence. While the world may try to silence him, heaven has welcomed him. His work here is finished, but his influence will echo far beyond this moment.

What happened to Charlie is an indictment on the darkness in our culture, but it is also a reminder that light shines brightest in the darkest places. They may try to bury the truth, but truth has a way of resurrecting.

Today we grieve. We weep. But we do not despair. Because Charlie’s faith has become sight. And the torch he carried for truth, for freedom, and for Christ is now ours to lift even higher. Enough is enough.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Charlie Kirk was a loving husband and father who inspired young people across America to get married, have children, end abortion, and live boldly for God. He believed deeply in our God-given First Amendment rights and would speak with or debate anyone, no matter their politics. Charlie championed open dialogue for the good of our nation, and he was killed for it. This is a dark day for America.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio: “Jeanette and I are devastated. Charlie Kirk’s commitment to America’s future generations and sense of patriotism will resonate for decades to come. May the Lord bless Charlie and his family.”

From his personal account, Rubio added, “Heartbroken and outraged by the assassination of Charlie Kirk. He was an incredible husband and father and a great American. May he rest in eternal peace with our Lord.”

Evangelical leader Franklin Graham: “What a tragedy. It has been announced that Charlie Kirk has died after being shot during an event at Utah Valley University today. This young man loved his country and invested his time and energy in trying to make it the best it could be. He stood boldly for conservative values and defended free speech for all of us. Most importantly, Charlie loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray for his wife Erika, their two young children, and all of their family. It’s in these moments of darkness that we need to stand on the Scripture that Erika shared on social media, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).”

Former RNC Chair Michael Whatley: “Charlie Kirk was what everyone wanted their son to grow up to be like – a loving father, a devoted husband, and a strong leader who fought for what mattered. He was an example to a generation of young people of what the Christian ideal was – loving, caring, and devoted to Christ. His death is a senseless tragedy and leaves a gaping hole in our country. I will miss my friend, but know he is with our lord and Savior right now and being told, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.””

Charlie was one of the brightest lights of our time, whose sole mission was to share the word of God and promote peace. Tragically, he was senselessly taken from us in cold blood.

“Above all, Charlie was a devoted man of God, a loving father, and a dedicated husband. May God grant his soul eternal rest. America will carry on your legacy.

On September 1, which was Labor Day, Kirk posted a photo of himself with his young son and wrote, “God, family, country. In that order. Happy Labor Day!”

On August 23, he shared a photo of himself with his daughter and wrote, “Happy birthday to our incredible daughter. Teaching her to know God, alongside @mrserikakirk, is the greatest privilege. Having a family will change your life in the best ways, so get married and have kids. You won’t regret it.”
