Former police officer Derek Chauvin has been transferred to a new federal prison months after getting stabbed by an unidentified Mexican inmate.
Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, has recently become the focal point of renewed debate over the true cause of Floyd’s death. Some argue that Floyd’s death was primarily due to a drug overdose, specifically involving fentanyl, rather than Chauvin’s actions during the arrest, suggesting Chauvin may have been wrongfully convicted and should be released.
On the other hand, others insist that Chauvin’s use of excessive force—particularly his kneeling on Floyd’s neck—was a significant factor in Floyd’s death, reinforcing the legitimacy of his conviction.
This ongoing debate has gained additional attention following a recent incident where Chauvin was attacked and stabbed 22 times by another inmate while in prison. The severity of the attack led to Chauvin’s transfer to a new facility.
