From NOLA.com: A Kansas City Telemundo reporter died Wednesday while covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports said on social media.

Adan Manzano, 27, worked as a sideline reporter for KBKC, Kansas City’s Telemundo affiliate, and was in town to cover the event for both the station and Tico Sports, KBKC and the Daily Mail said.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office said in a Thursday statement that Manzano died at a Kenner hotel.

The coroner had conducted an autopsy of his body, but Manzano’s official cause of death is pending further test results, authorities said.

“There were no obvious signs of trauma to his body,” the coroner’s office added.

Adding to the tragedy, Manzano’s wife, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd, an elementary school teacher, was killed in a car accident last year, in April, when a vehicle crossed the center line and hit her vehicle. The couple had a little girl, Eleanor, who is now two. Eleanor was in the car, but survived the accident that killed her mother.

Manzano, originally from Mexico City, had moved to Topeka, Kansas in 2018, and graduated from Kansas State University. He had worked as a sports anchor at KBKC since 2021.

Manzano posted the following photo on his Facebook page in January 2024, just three months before his wife was killed.

The Kansas Association of Broadcasters posted the following statement:

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Adan Manzano. Adan was a dedicated sports journalist covering the Super Bowl for both Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports when this tragic event occurred in New Orleans.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. We will share his obituary in this thread as soon as it becomes available.

Steve Downing, General Manager at KGKC Telemundo in Kansas City, announced Manzano’s passing and said in a statement, “Adam was a true profession and a rising star who exemplified excellence in his work.”
