Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey expressed support Thursday for the Trump administration’s efforts to detain criminals through ICE arrests, stating she backs the “apprehension of criminals in our communities.”

Her comments followed federal immigration officers making arrests in Boston and Chelsea, Massachusetts, earlier this week. Healey clarified that while she supports ICE apprehending criminals, she opposes large-scale immigration arrests. She noted that Massachusetts is not officially a “sanctuary state.”

However, some consider it one due to a 2017 court ruling barring police from detaining individuals solely for immigration violations—a decision Healey supported as attorney general. Current Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell vowed Thursday to prevent unlawful arrests in the state.

“Yes, there is concern that there is the possibility they will round up people unlawfully, and that’s where we will hold them accountable,” Campbell claimed.
