From Washington Examiner: Former President Joe Biden traveled to Galveston, Texas, on Thursday to celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday he enshrined with a stroke of a pen while in office, and took a handful of shots at President Donald Trump.
Biden has largely stayed out of the limelight since leaving office in January and announcing his advanced cancer diagnosis in May, but he had harsh words for his successor Thursday night.
The former president signed the Juneteenth Independence Day Act into law in 2021, recognizing Juneteenth as the federal commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States, and he told attendees at Thursday’s service at Reedy Chapel AME Church that he was motivated to do so in the face of efforts to “erase” American history.
Referring to Trump, Biden said, “This guy,” before dramatically making the sign of the cross.
“I played a role in changing the names of all the military camps that have slave names,” he said. “What are we doing now? Restating those names. Folks, the darkness can hide much but erase nothing.”
“I came here because the good Lord isn’t done with us yet. We have more work to do,” Biden added. “Let’s remember who we are. We’re the United States of America. You’ve heard me say it many times. There’s nothing — nothing — beyond our capacity when we act together.”
Biden was well received at the church where he gave his remarks, and he was handed several gifts to mark the occasion. Watch his speech below. (Note the way the woman who introduces him treats him like a toddler.)
Biden was less well reviewed on X, where several users roasted him for his past Juneteenth performances.

During his first term, Trump issued proclamations honoring the “countless contributions made by African Americans to our Nation” on each Juneteenth, the Examiner reports, noting he did not do so Thursday.
Asked about Trump”s plans to sign a proclamation this Juneteenth, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Thursday that she was not “tracking his signature on a proclamation today.”
Trump did mark the day with a Truth on his Truth Social platform which was widely interpreted as a dig against Juneteenth as a holiday.
“Too many non-working holidays in America,” Trump wrote. “It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
🚨 President Trump just SLAMMED the ridiculous amount of federal holidays we have, like “Juneteenth”
“Soon, we’ll end up having a holiday for every working day of the year”
