According to a small news blip on a New York Times report Thursday, former Rep. Matt Gaetz identified four Republican senators who would not support his nomination to serve as U.S. Attorney General in the next Trump administration.
Gaetz, who resigned from his seat in U.S. Congress after Trump nominated him for Attorney General, was in meetings behind closed doors on Wednesday with Republican senators and their staffs, trying to secure their support for his nomination.
After those conversations, Gaetz reportedly told people close to him that four senators were opposed to his nomination: Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and John Curtis of Utah.
Thursday afternoon, Gaetz announced he was withdrawing his name from being considered for the position.
